When you watch a Hollywood movie you only sit for a couple hours and depending on the rating of the movie you might witness sex scenes, profanity, gore or violence etc. Typically Hollywood movies are no more then two hours except for the movies such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Avatar. But Bollywood movies go beyond the typical time of a Hollywood movie. Each movie is pretty much a good 3 hours or 2 hours and 59 minutes and 32 seconds. The theme of almost every movie is a girl and guy falling in love and in this love triangle includes lots of drama. Not only is there drama but theres lots of songs, random songs! A girl running towards the guy of her dreams and while running there's back ground music. When the finally reaches the guy she hugs him and looks deep into his eyes and comes closer to him and closer and then she runs away giggling. Because up until four years ago you would never see kissing in Indian movies. However that has changed and there's full make out scenes except lets just say, that they don't know how its done. To better describe Indian movies Russell peters is the perfect example.
I hope you enjoyed that clip :)
Don't get the wrong idea about Bollywood films, they may be long but they are really entertaining. About 1000 movies are released annually in India, about twice the output of Hollywood. In those 1000 there are a good 5 movies that are hits. Clearly producers have so much money to waste each year. Its all about luck.
Bollywood vs. Hollywood
Whats more entertaining then movies especially movies from two different cultures. This blog discusses movies made in India and USA, two different worlds with similiar story lines. Except the fact that Bollywood movies are always love storys.

Bollywood vs. Hollywood
Over the years the traditional Indian culture has changed from being conservative to modern. Actors and Actresses in India have now expanded their acting careers in modeling, appearing on magazines and up until recently appearing in Hollywood films. One film released in 2004 "Bride and Prejudice" starring Aishwarya Rai, is a good example when east meets west. This famous actress and once Miss World has opened a path into Hollywood in recent years that has got many actors wanting the attention from Hollywood.
"Bride and Prejudice" is a Bollywood update of Jane Austen's classic tale, a mother is eager to find rich husbands for her four daughters. When the rich single men Balraj and Darcy come to visit, the Bakshi family have high hopes to pretty much trap the mean, but because of cultural differences and opinions each sisters lives are complicate.

Award Winning Movies
Given the fact that Bollywood movies are in some ways different from Hollywood movies they have however directed many award winning movies that have been acknowledged around the world. The first international movie recognized in the Oscar's was Lagaan directed by Ashutosh Gowariker a well known directed in India. The nominated movie included actors Aamir Khan and two British actors Rachel Shelley, Paul Blackthorne. The film is directed in India in the era when India was controlled by the British and the hardships endure by villagers. They have to pay taxes each year to the British but barely make enough earnings from their crops and have little to eat. A young village man named Bhuvan who is the hero, challenges Captain Jack Russell to a game of cricket after a heated discussion in efforts to not pay taxes for three years, that creates a lot of tension in the village. Because none of the villagers knows how to play they are helped by a beautiful Elizabeth, sister of Captain Russelll. After a very long game the villagers win the game and with the winning comes rain, leaving the villagers tremendously happy.
Another Oscar winning film "Slumdog Millionaire" directed by Danny Boyle and Loveleen Tandan, caught the eye of billions around the world. This film won many golden globes and Oscar's and made the lives of a few Indian children with their heart touching performances. The movie is about a Mumbai teen who grew up in the slums, he becomes a contestant on the Indian version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" He is arrested under suspicion of cheating, and while being interrogated, events from his life history are shown which explain why he knows the answers. His main reason to go on this show is to find his love Latika who was taken away from him many years ago.
Hollywood has gone a long ways with many award winning movies and inspiring other countries to make recognizable movies. The movie Titanic directed by James Cameron won the most Oscar's for its unique love story. This movie is one of my favorites because its different from every other movie made. Its on a ship called Titanic with the lead actors Leonardo Dicaprio who plays Jack a poor boy who wins his ticket on the ship from a game of cards and Kate Winslet who plays Rose a rich girl who has come with her greedy mother and fiance, Caledon. Rose feels like a doll being told what to do and how to act, with so much feelings waiting to explode, she runs to the back of the ship and thinks of jumping when Jack who talks her out of it. This one meeting builds a friendship which results later on to love. Its a very sad movie personally and definitely a must watch movie
Another award winning and one of my favorite trilogies was Lord of the Rings directed by Peter Jackson. Originally written by J.R.R. Tolkien, the story begins in a small village in the Shire a young Hobbit named Frodo (played by Elijah Wood) has been entrusted with an ancient Ring. Finding out the danger of this rings he must embark on an Epic quest to the Cracks of Doom in order to destroy it. He is protected by the finest warriors and is helped through this journey by his friend Sam.
